The Highlander

Besides Scot Scoop, I also work as a content producer for The Highlander, our print magazine. As a content producer, I write articles for different sections, which then get handed over to our editors to design spreads around.

Walking in a winter wasteful-land

This article was the center spread of our December issue, which was themed "environment." My partner and I wanted to lean into both the theme and the season, so we decided to look into the impact that the holiday season has on the environment. Specifically, we divided impacts into three sub-categories: travel emissions, the tradition of gift-giving, and light and noise pollution.

Found Families

The theme for our February issue was "where we belong." For our center spread, my partner and I explored the importance of different safe spaces for people who may not feel comfortable being themselves otherwise. Some examples we used were how theater tends to be associated with the LGBTQ+ community, and how the nail industry is home to many Vietnamese workers.

Just Dance to a healthier life

The theme of our April issue was "wellness," and I wrote for the arts & entertainment section. I've always loved to play Just Dance; it's a holiday tradition at my friend's house. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring the game to The Highlander because, in a world of increasing digitalization, it's good to know that not all video games are bad for you. In this article, I explore the health benefits of fitness video games such as Just Dance.
